1. Messing up in theater makes new theater
Performance is human and no human is perfect. Don’t focus on where you messed up because every performance is different.
2. Each doorway is a chance to be a better you
No matter what day you’ve had or how you have felt, walking into the space is a chance for an attitude to change. Don’t enter the space with those feelings.
3. You can only do what is authentic to you
Your story is yours. You can’t make theater for anyone else but yourself.
4. Never quit, unless it takes burden on your soul
It is so easy to give up on something because it is difficult. Unless the project negatively affects you, push through any roadblocks you may face.
5. Perspective is the key to any performance
Think about everyone’s perspective. The audience, your cast, your own, the directors, the character's perspective in the piece. A whole understanding of a project can produce a great product.
6. Find a Creative Challenge
Your passion can become boring if you are not challenged. Just try!
7. Talk to everyone in the room, no matter how quiet
Everyone’s input and comment matters and sometimes those who fall silent in collaborative space can bring the most to a project. Include everyone.
8. Leave the room with more than you entered
Whether that “more” be knowledge, experience, new relationships, new perspectives, or more done on a project…always leave with more.
9. An unfinished project leaves an opportunity for new stories
Sometimes projects do not get finished due to so many reasons. Repurpose ideas and thoughts from one project that may not have worked out.
